Israel has been systemically starving and depriving Palestinians of their basic needs through economic warfare, with Israel's blockade on the Gaza Strip first imposed in 2005.
In 2006, Dov Weisglass, senior advisor to Prime Minister, stated the the policy was designed
"to put the Palestinians on a diet, but not to make them die of hunger.”
In 2008, Israeli authorities calculated the minimum caloric intake necessary for Palestinians to avoid total malnutrition in order to determine the amount of food allowed into Gaza.
Today, Gaza is constantly short of food, power, medical supplies. Gaza only has power for four hours on a good day, and 90% of the water is undrinkable.
It is one of the most densely populated regions on the planet, and over half the population is comprised of children and teenagers, many of whom have lost their parents and families in the war.
In addition to the blockade and economic oppression, Israel’s decades long military occupation of Gaza plays into the violent abuse of the Palestinian people.
Every year, 500-1000 Palestinian children are arrested and imprisoned by the IDF, and the number one alleged crime for said arrests is “stone throwing.” In Israeli military prison, these children are beaten, sexually assaulted, and deprived of food and sleep. All for throwing a rock at a soldier.
Much of the infrastructure in the Gaza Strip is in ruins due to the IDF’s constant bombing of Palestinian people, destroying schools, homes, hospitals, mosques, and media centers. Unemployment and poverty run high, as people try to live their lives among the rubble, under the constant threat of more bombs being dropped over their heads at any moment.
The U.N predicted that Gaza would be completely “uninhabitable” by 2020.
Israel has turned Gaza into a nightmare on Earth. And since Israel officially declared war on Hamas, the situation has only grown more dire.
The IDF recently dropped 6,000 bombs on Gaza in just 6 days in October, killing 2370 Palestinians, including 721 children and 390 women. The bombs destroyed 2650 homes, and severely damaged 70,000 more.
They've got off all supplies into the Gaza Strip, depriving the innocent people and their children of food and medical supplies that they so desperately need in the midst of the bombings, chaos, and death.
Israel instructed the citizens of Gaza to flee, only for them to be met with more bombs on the passages they were meant to flee through.
Gaza is an open-air prison, backed by the most powerful countries on Earth, as Amerikkka provides funds and sells weapons to aid Israel in the war effort.
Except this isn't a war. This is settler-colonialism. This is a genocide. This is violent abuse.
